RSS App Reeder for iPhone Hits 3.0 with Complete Overhaul

Reeder 3.0 for iPhoneSometimes, there’s nothing really wrong with an app, but a developer manages to find a way to make it even better. Such is the case with Reeder for iPhone, which received a significant update to version 3.0 on Thursday.

Developer Silvio Rizzi has announced the availability of Reeder 3.0 for iPhone, a completely rewritten app which offers Google Reader and Readability integration in a slick user interface. Now loaded with even more features and faster than ever before, version 3.0 is available from the App Store on Thursday.

Reeder 3.0 for iPhone offers a new method for authorizing Google Reader accounts, so users will have to add your account from scratch. But one you do, you’ll notice that syncing is faster than ever. And finally, users can subscribe and unsubscribe from Reader feeds right from within the app.

Speaking of within the app, Settings have also been brought into the app itself and now include syncing with Fever as well as new sharing services QUOTE.fm and Buffer. Configurable gestures allow users to swipe right or left to toggle unread or starred, or use a two-finger swipe up or down to mark entries above or below as read.

Gestures are also a key part of the article viewer in Reeder 3.0 for iPhone, with the ability to swipe right to go back to the article list, swipe left to open an article with the in-app browser, pinch-to-zoom for images and even pinch to toggle Readability mode.

One caveat for Facebook lovers: Rizzi notes that Facebook integration “is missing in this version but will be added later,” so users who rely on this functionality may want to skip this update for now.

As always, Reeder for iPhone 3.0 is $2.99 for new customers and the update is free to existing ones. The iPad and Mac versions have yet to receive similar updates, but if history is any indication, they’ll be on the way soon.
