Apple Announces New iPad Finally Coming to China on Friday, July 20

Chinese crowd mayhemAnd with one press release, it's official. With the Proview trademark lawsuit now settled and regulatory approvals behind them, Apple has cleared the new iPad for landing, right back where the products are manufactured in the first place.

Apple announced on Tuesday that the new iPad will finally touch down in China on Friday, July 20, where it's quite likely that throngs of eager fans will gobble them up as quickly as the company can roll them off the assembly lines.

"Apple today announced the new iPad, the third generation of its category defining mobile device, will arrive in China on Friday, July 20," the company said in a brief press release on Monday. "The new iPad features a stunning new Retina display, AppleĆ¢€™s new A5X chip with quad-core graphics and a 5 megapixel iSight camera with advanced optics for capturing amazing photos and 1080p HD video. The new iPad still delivers the same all-day 10 hour battery life while remaining amazingly thin and light."

One thing the new iPad won't be delivering in China are 4G LTE data speeds -- much like the rest of the world, those antenna bands are incompatible with the ones currently used in the world's most populous country. But no matter, it will sell just fine and work on existing 3G radio bands.

Apple will be accepting reservations at their retail stores in China daily from 9am to 12pm starting Thursday, July 19, with in-store pickup available the following day. Chinese fans can also order the new iPad from Apple's online store as well as select Apple Authorized Resellers, and the iPad 2 will also be available starting at $399 USD.
