AMD, Intel Join Forces to Create Cyber Security Research Alliance

Wonder Twin PowersIn a bid of mutual respect for one another, and for the greater good against growing cyber security issues, AMD and Intel have come together to help form the Cyber Security Research Alliance (CSRA), a non-profit research consortium formed to "address complex problems in cyber security." Industry heavyweights Honeywell, Lockheed Martin, and RSA/EMC are also listed as founding members of the CSRI.

"The CSRA is organized to leverage expertise, from member companies and partners in government and academia," said Lee Holcomb, president of the CSRA and vice president of strategic initiatives, Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Solutions. "Together we hope to create viable, game changing cyber security solutions."

One of the organization's goals at the outset is to grow its ranks and encourage industry collaboration on security issues. It also seeks to bridge the gap between government funded R&D and commercially available cyber security products and solutions, CSRA said.

In addition, the CSRA is in talks with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to form a joint cyber security research symposium in early 2013, with the goal of connecting researchers and early adpoters from across private, academic, and government sectors.
