Earlier this week, HTC and Apple shook hands on a 10-year licensing deal in which the former agreed to pay the latter $6 to $8 for every Android device it sells. In exchange, Apple agreed not to sue HTC and pursue a mega damages award, like the $1 billion verdict it won against Samsung. Should Samsung follow in HTC's footsteps? That's a good question, but regardless of the answer, a licensing deal is not in the cards for Samsung and Apple.
When asked by reporters if Samsung would try and ink a similar deal with Apple, J.K. Shin, head of Samsung's mobile unit, stated rather simply, "We have no such intention," AFP reports.
Apple at one point offered to license its patents to Samsung, though at a much higher rate than the deal HTC signed. The Cupertino company was reportedly seeking $30 per phone and $40 per tablet from Samsung, though was willing to give a 20 percent discount if Samsung agreed to cross-license its patent portfolio back to Apple.
Samsung scoffed, and the two sides have been bickering every since. In a bit of gamesmanship, Samsung earlier this week jacked up the prices of chips it sells to Apple, serving as another indicator that these two sides aren't very fond of each other.
