Velocity Micro Puffs Chest at Bulk OEMs, Launches $599 'Vector Holiday Edition' Desktop

Velocity Micro Vector Holiday EditionIt wasn't forever ago that a $599 PC from a boutique system builder was simply unheard of. In many respects, it still is, however Velocity Micro managed to hit that price point with its new Vector Holiday Edition desktop, a rather tame PC intended as an alternative for mainstream buyers who might otherwise be considering a bloat-filled OEM system. It's also configurable, in case you need more oomph than what the stock setup provides.

Speaking of which, a stock setup includes:

  • AMD A6-5400K processor clocked at 3.6GHz
  • Integrated Radeon HD 7540D graphics (760MHz, 192 Radeon cores)
  • 100 percent aluminum chassis
  • 8GB of DDR3-1600 RAM
  • 1TB hard drive (7200 RPM)
  • 24X DVD burner
  • 700W Velocity Micro power supply
  • Keyboard and mouse
  • Windows 7 or Windows 8
  • 1-year warranty; lifetime phone support

You can upgrade the processor up to an A10-5800K chip, double the amount of RAM to 16GB, add a discrete graphics card, swap the hard drive for a solid state drive, and more, depending on your budget. Regardless of the components, Velocity Micro promises no bloatware, and points out that every system is designed, built, and tested in its Richmond, VA headquarters.

"PC shoppers are tired of the bland, plastic designs of those behemoth manufactures that fill their systems with bloatware, mass produce product in China, and outsource support to India," said Randy Copeland, President and CEO of Velocity Micro. "WeĆ¢€™ve created the Vector Holiday Edition to be a viable alternative to those brands, by offering our expert build quality and award-winning support at a mainstream price."

Velocity Micro VMultra Drive

In related news, Velocity Micro announced another new product, the VMultra Drive. It's a $200 4-in-1 external device that features a DVD burner, USB 3.0 hub, SD card slot ,and 500GB of backup storage.

Both the Vector Holiday Edition desktop and VMultra Drive are available to purchase now.
