Now that Windows 8 is here, don't be surprised to see companies pimping new all-in-one (AIO) desktops with fancy touchscreen displays. Even boutique builders are getting in on the action. Enter Velocity Micro, a system builder based out of Virginia, which today announced its new Edgo AIO PC. Fully configurable on the inside, Velocity Micro says it also paid attention to the outside, culminating in a "rare combination of aesthetics and power."
"The all-in-one PC market is full of uninspired, underpowered hardware that not only offers a sub-par user experience, but doesn̢۪t even look good doing it," said Randy Copeland, President and CEO of Velocity Micro. "We designed the Edge AIO to be the solution to those low powered, low expectation, chunky looking all-in-ones."
Available in Pearl White, the 23.6-inch (1920x1080) Edge starts at $799 and includes an Intel Core i3 2120 processor (3.3GHz, 3MB cache), 4GB DDR3-1600 RAM, 500GB hard drive (7200 RPM, 16MB cache), 8X DVD burner, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, GbE LAN, four USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, 1.3MP webcam, and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit w/ SP1.
The default OS is curious considering the marketing push for Windows 8 desktops, though that too is upgradeable ($20 bumps you up to Windows 8 64-bit with disk). Upgrade options abound, from faster processors to more RAM and bigger HDDs or faster SSDs.
Velocity Micro is accepting orders for the Edge AIO now.
