CES 2013: Xi3's Piston PC/Console, or Maybe Valve's Steam Box [Video]

Xi3 at CESA potential Steam Box PC breaks cover at CES.

Xi3 generated a lot of buzz at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) over its Piston PC, a pint size computer that's based on the company's X7A system (both pictured in the thumbnail image), an honest-to-goodness modular computer. The form factor made a splash at last year's CES, and this time around, the question on everyone's mind is whether or not the Piston is Valve's Steam Box.

The answer is a resounding "maybe." Maximum PC Online Editor Jimmy Thang did everything but inject Xi3's chief marketing manager with truth serum, but David Politis played it coy, refusing to divulge much of anything about the Piston.

It's a PC, we know that much. The exact hardware and software, however, are a complete mystery. Politis wouldn't even say if the Piston would come pre-configured with Linux like the X7A system it's based on.

As to Xi3's relationship with Valve, Politis would only say that "clearly" there exists "some type of relationship," but neither company is ready to say more at this time.

See what else Politis didn't have to say in the video below:
