Lenovo refuses to give up on the PC.
This should surprise exactly no one, but Lenovo Chief Executive Officer Yuanqing Yang doesnât like the term âPost-PC Eraâ. We suspect his views might be slightly influenced by his role as head honcho of the worldâs 2nd largest PC manufacturer by volume, but thatâs just a hunch.
In an interview with Reuters, Yang claims "We don't live in a post-PC world, we are entering the PC plus era." He further clarified by saying that the only companies who truly believe we are in a post-pc era are the ones that have stopped innovating with PCs. "In our industry many players think PCs have become a commodity product," he said. "We have never thought this way."
Itâs refreshing to see companies like Lenovo continuing to invest in the future of the PC, and Yangâs vision of a PC Plus future seems to align with hybrid devices such as the Yoga which merge tablet computing with a traditional notebook. This gamble also seems to be paying off. Yang admitted that two of their hybrid PC models have captured 40 percent of the $900 and above market.
Lenovo continues to duke it out with HP for the top spot on the PC charts, and if hybrids really are the future, they seem to be well positioned heading into 2013 and beyond.
