NEC's 24-inch EA244WMi is a business-oriented monitor with a thin profile.
CRT stalwarts can still be heard grumbling about superior picture quality and other mostly stale arguments, but the rest of us have long since moved on to slimmer LCD monitors that take up less space and are more power efficient. And if you really want to embrace those benefits, an LCD panel with LED backlighting is the way to go. That's the direction NEC is taking with its 24-inch EA244WMi monitor, the newest addition to its MultiSync EA Series for office warriors.
The EA244WMi touts an IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel with wide viewing angles (178 degrees vertical and horizontal). IPS panels are also known for superior color accuracy and image quality compared to Twisted Nematic (TN) monitors. By switching to LED backlighting, NEC says it was able to build a lighter, slimmer monitor than previous models.
"The MultiSync EA Series has transitioned to LED backlighting, offering our enterprise customers industry-leading low power consumption and less hazardous materials, not to mention a more aesthetically pleasing product," said Lynn Gu, Product Manager at NEC Display Solutions. "With top environmental compliance and technologies, the EA244WMi is a perfect complement to the line."
NEC went with a 16:10 aspect ratio (1920x1200 Full HD resolution). For those who care about monitor specs (and you should always take these things with a block of salt), the EA244WMi features a 25,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio (1,000:1 typical) and 350 cd/m2 brightness. NEC didn't specify the monitor's rated response time.

Connectivity is provided by HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI-D, and VGA ports. It also has a 4-port USB hub, touch-sensitive On-Screen Display (OSD) controls, human and ambient light sensors, and an ECO Mode.
MSRP for the EA244WMi is $349.
