A Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition laptop with a Full HD 1080p display starts at $1,550. Dell this week announced that its XPS Developer Edition laptop is now equipped with a Full HD 1080p (1920x1080) resolution display, upgraded from 1366x768. The upgraded panel is shipping to customers in the United States and now runs $1,550. Starting next week, Dell will begin offering the upgrade model to select countries in Europe, like the U.K., France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. "Beyond these, we will be offering it in select countries like Morocco, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa Turkey and others through your local Dell reps. Our teams are still looking into options in terms of introducing the laptop in Australia and other countries in Asia, so I don't yet have anything to report there," Dell announced in a blog post. In addition to a higher native resolution, the new display is both brighter and has wider viewing angles compared to the original (178 degrees versus 80 degrees), Dell says. It's a higher quality panel all around, offering a 72 percent color gamut versus 45 percent on the standard panel. "I know some folks may judge the XPS 13 against the MacBook Pro 13, but in terms of size and weight, I think the MacBook Air 13 is a more realistic compare," Dell's Lionel Menchaca said.
