Anyone looking for an 8” Smartphone?  When you’re this big, they call you mister. When Huawei announced it was releasing a 6.1-inch Smartphone, we couldn’t stop ourselves from poking fun at it. The prospect of holding such a massive device up to our ear made us question who would buy such a device, and our readers more or less agreed in the comments. Huawei clearly marketed its new device as a phone, however Samsung is taking a slightly different approach. Today the company announced the Galaxy Note 8.0, featuring an 8-inch 1280 x 800 (189ppi) TFT display. Is it a phone? Is it a tablet? You be the judge. The Note 8.0 will ship with version 4.1.2 of Jelly Bean, and is a fully featured tablet, but with all the phone guts from the rest of the Note family left intact. Perspective buyers who purchase the cellular version of the device can choose to simply use it like a normal tablet, or have it pull double duty as a phone. 8-inches is large enough that Samsung hopes it will appeal to the road warrior crowd who frequently carry two devices, and only find the need to make the occasional phone call.  At just 0.31 inches thick, and 0.74 pounds, the Note 8.0 manages to pack a lot of hardware in a relatively slim and light form factor. It features an Exynos 4 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6 GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage + MicroSD, 802.11 a/b/g/n, and Bluetooth 4.0.
