Nvidia has grown from a three-person startup to 8,000 staff. It was 20 years ago this month that three people -- Jen-Hsun Huang, Chris Malachowsky, and Curtis Priem -- co-founded Nvidia with venture capital funding from Sequoia Capital. Nvidia's grown by leaps and bounds in the past two decades and now employs over 8,000 individuals situated across more than 40 sites. At Nvidia's headquarters in Santa Clara, a few blocks from where it all started, there's barely a spare desk to be found, the GPU maker says. The solution? Build a new headquarters. Nvidia is building a new campus that will be located across the street from where it's at now. The new building will "stand at the intersection of science and art" and "will capture the ambition and imagination of our people," Nvidia explains. A team at Gensler, led by Harvard-trained architect Hao Ko, collaborated with Nvidia to come up with the design, which will be efficient in every way. The design process paid special attention to space, energy, environment, and cost. "The design harmonizes smart functionality and a shape that connects and inspires our employees -- a triangle, the fundamental building block of computer graphics," Nvidia stated in a blog post. Construction will take place in two phases, the first of which will focus on office space, labs, and other support functions, such as parking for 1,800 automobiles. Phase 2 will see a second 500,000 square-foot building. It all begins in June 2013, with the goal of being r
