Facebook Launches App Center, But You May Not Have It Yet
After months of rumors, Facebookâs App Center has finally launched, offering a new way to discover apps for web and mobile alike -- that is, assuming that it actually shows up on your device.
Facebook has announced âa new place to find social appsâ with App Center, available from the social networkâs iOS and Android apps as well as Facebook.com. App Center launched Thursday night with more than 600 titles, but donât be surprised if you donât see it yet on your mobile device.
âThe App Center will begin rolling out to people in the U.S. today, with more than 600 apps,â the company explains. âIt will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.â
If App Center isnât showing up on your mobile device, simply head over to the Facebook website and check it out on the desktop, where youâll receive personalized recommendations and the ability to browse the apps your friends are using.
âEvery app in the App Center has screenshots and a detailed description, so you can learn more about it before installing it,â Facebook notes. âIt helps you control your privacy by showing the information an app needs and letting you choose who can see your activity on Facebook. If you decide you want to use an app, you can get started directly from the App Center. â
App Center apps can be sent straight to your mobile device with the new âSend to Mobileâ feature -- if it requires a download, youâll then be whisked off to the App Store (or Google Play, for Android devices) to install it.
A screencast of the App Center is also available online for those who want to get a peek before trying it out.
