How to Set Up an Event in Google+
How to Set Up an Event in Google+
Google announced yesterday that Google+ will now have its own Events feature, so users of the social network will now be able to create event pages to invite friends and share photos as the event is happening. Curious about it? Read on to find out more.
What Youâll Need
>> Google+ account
>> Google+ app for mobile devices (optional)
Before the Event
To get started creating your event invitation, navigate to your Google+ account, and then click the new Events button in the sidebar. Next, youâll want to click on the âCreate Eventâ button in the upper, right-hand corner of the screen to get started.

A pop up dialog will appear prompting you to select from one of the myriad of different themes that are offered. Next, specify a name for the event, date, time, location (optional), and other details (optional). If you click on the Event options drop-down menu, you will be presented with options you can select to make creating the event inviting easier. You can also specify whether or not guests can invite others, and that guests can add photos to the event.

Click on the Advanced sections heading to select the option to have a Google+ Hangout during your event (online-only), and the option to make the event publicly viewable. Here, you can also click on the âShow additional fieldsâ button to make the fields for Website URL, Ticket seller URL, Youtube URL, and Transit/Parking information options visible.
Before clicking the Invite button, be sure to address your invitation by typing the name, circle, or email address of those you wish to invite into the invite field. After sending the invitation, users you invited will be able to view the event page, and will be able to select whether or not they will be attending the party.
During the Event
During the event, users can either navigate to the event page in their web browser to post comments to the page, or they can use the new features in the Google+ app for mobile to share photos communally on the event page.
To share photos taken during the party with the Google+ application, youâll need to launch the application and ensure that âInstant Uploadâ is enabled in the app settings. Next, navigate to the event page in Google+ in our web browser and select Add Photos > From your phone.

In addition, you can manually upload photos from the event from your computer. Photos added to the event are automatically added to the event page for all invitees to see.

If you have the Google+ app for Android, you will be able to use the new Party Mode feature that automatically shares photos taken during a party with those who are invited. Unfortunately, this feature has not yet made its way over to iOS devices.

When the event time arrives, you will see a âPlay live slideshowâ button on the event page. Selecting this button will make all photos taken by guests appear full screen on your computer as they are uploaded. This is great for those unable to attend, or for event-goers to view photos taken by others at the event.
