Android 4.0 Finally Hits 16 Percent of Devices
How do you like them apples -- er, Androids? Ars Technica is reporting that last year's hot version of Android -- that would be 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" -- has finally landed on 16 percent of devices, according to Google's own data from the last two weeks. That's a significant gain from early June, when Ice Cream Sandwich was only installed on a mere seven percent of Android devices (and a mere 2.9 percent a couple months prior to that). Ironically, the gains come since Google debuted Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean" at its I/O conference in late June, which is off to a slow start with only 0.8 percent install base. Evernote for Mac Adds Account Switching for Premium Users
Evernote Premium users got a little treat this week with the release of Evernote 3.3 for Mac, which introduces account switching for those with more than one set of credentials. It doesn't matter if the accounts are free or Premium, and all the magic happens right from the Evernote menu or a Command+Control+A keyboard shortcut. Version 3.3 also bakes in the ability to share a single note to colleagues on LinkedIn, a couple of new keyboard shortcuts and improvements to checkboxes as well. The Mac App Store version of Evernote also now complies with Apple's sandboxing requirements as well as adding a few small fixes and improvements.
Archos Taking on Asus with Slim G10 Tablets
French electronics maker Archos has been dabbling in tablets longer than most anyone else, but they have yet to gain much traction here in the U.S. with their Android-based products. According to The Verge, that may change with the introduction of their new Gen 10 lineup for 2012, which promises to give Asus' Transformer a run for its money when they launch in three weeks. The new slim tablet comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and will use a keyboard dock, and rumors are pegging the line priced between $260 and $520. We'll be sure to keep an eye out for these in the weeks ahead!
